Synopsis & Plot Summary
The story follows Violet Evergarden, a young woman formerly known as “the weapon,” who was raised solely to fight in the Great War. After the conflict ends, she is left with nothing but mechanical prosthetic arms and the haunting final words of her commander, Gilbert Bougainvillea: “I love you.”
Seeking to understand the meaning of those words, Violet becomes an “Auto Memory Doll”—ghostwriters who transcribe the feelings of others into letters. Through her encounters with diverse clients, Violet slowly reconnects with her own humanity and learns to navigate a world without war.
